Analytics Cookies
We use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors interact with our website, which helps us improve the calculator and content. Clarity records how pages are used, such as clicks, scrolling and mouse movement, as heatmaps and session replays, and it masks what you type into a field. Whether these cookies are set before you make a choice depends on where you are:
- European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland: no analytics cookies are set unless you select "Accept All". Until then, Google receives only anonymous, cookieless signals.
- Everywhere else: analytics is on by default, and selecting "Reject" under the Cookie Preferences link in the site footer turns it off. We also honor the Global Privacy Control signal if your browser sends one.

Advertising Cookies
This site shows ads served through Journey by Mediavine, and advertising cookies are set on pages that carry ads. Ads appear on our calculator and guide pages. They do not appear on this policy, the Privacy Policy, the Terms of Use, or the Contact page. Mediavine and its advertising partners set their own cookies and use similar technologies to serve ads, limit how often you see the same ad, measure ad performance and, where permitted, show ads based on your interests. We do not set these cookies ourselves, and the exact cookies vary with the advertiser, so we cannot list each one here. The Journey by Mediavine cookie notice describes them.
Affiliate Links
Some pages link to products on Amazon as part of the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, and we earn a commission from qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you. These links set no cookies on this site. Amazon may set its own cookies once you click through and land on their site, which is covered by Amazon's cookie and privacy notices rather than this one.
Sponsored Phone Number
Some pages show a sponsored phone number that connects you with a company in our partner network, and we may be paid for the referral. Tapping it sets no cookies and shares no personal information. If you have allowed analytics, we record an anonymous event noting that a call button was tapped and on which page and placement, so we can see which pages lead to calls; it never includes the number you dial or anything identifying you. The call itself is then handled by that network and by your phone carrier, both of which fall under their own notices rather than this one.
Optional ZIP Code
If you use the optional ZIP code field beside a sponsored phone number, the resolved town and state are kept in your browser's session storage, not in a cookie, so the page stays personalized as you move around the Site. It is discarded when you close the tab, and clearing the field removes it straight away. Nothing is sent anywhere unless you type a ZIP code.
Managing Your Cookie Preferences
If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, a cookie banner appears on your first visit and asks for your consent. Everywhere else no banner appears on its own, and you can open the same choices at any time with the Cookie Preferences link in the site footer. Either way, you can:
- Accept All - allows analytics cookies, and tells Google it may use advertising cookies and personalize ads
- Reject - turns off analytics tracking, and tells Google not to use advertising cookies or personalize ads for you
You can change your choice at any time using the Cookie Preferences link in the site footer. Once you have made a choice, we ask again automatically every 180 days, so a choice you made long ago never sticks indefinitely.
If you make no choice, what happens depends on where you are. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, analytics and the Google advertising signal stay off until you select "Accept All". Everywhere else they are on by default, and selecting "Reject" or sending the Global Privacy Control signal turns them off. Beyond that signal to Google, advertising cookies are set by Mediavine and its partners, and you manage them through the advertising opt-out pages listed under Third-Party Cookies below, or through your browser settings.

Third-Party Cookies
Three third-party services set cookies on this site: Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity, and the advertising served through Journey by Mediavine. Clarity follows the same choice as analytics: it does not load after you select Reject, and in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland it does not load until you select Accept All. Microsoft describes how it handles this data in the Microsoft Privacy Statement. For advertising, you can opt out of interest-based ads from participating companies at the Network Advertising Initiative and the Digital Advertising Alliance. Where the law requires it, Mediavine also shows its own consent banner and adds an "Update Privacy Settings" or "Do Not Sell or Share My Information" link at the bottom of the page. The full Mediavine Advertising Privacy Notice, with every opt-out tool, is at the end of our Privacy Policy. Opting out does not remove ads. It means the ads you see are not based on your interests.
For analytics, we use Google's Consent Mode v2 to pass your choice to Google: when analytics is off, no tracking cookies are dropped and Google receives only anonymous, cookieless signals with any advertising identifiers redacted.
